The Brazos Christian baseball team scored two early runs and held on for a 2-1 win over St. Francis Episcopal on Saturday in the TAPPS Division IV area round.
The Eagles will now face Northland Christian in the regional round with the winner advancing to the state semifinals. The time and location will be released later. Northland Christian won 15-0 over San Marcos Academy on Saturday.
Brazos Christian struck in the bottom of the first as Jackson Caffey's RBI single scored Hudson Jacobus and Josh Caraway. That was all the run support the Eagles got, but it was also all they needed as starter Brayden Mineo worked six innings.
Mineo gave up just three hits, one run, walked five and struck out eight. The one run came in the top of the second. Jacobus took over in the seventh with two walks.
The game ended on a double play as Jacobus induced a flyout to center and the runner wasn't able to get back in time.
